Mr. Morton's Modified Weekender

Mr. Graeme Morton has sent us these pics of his Weekender project. He is departing rather a bit from the plans, but there's still quite a bit of the old Weekender feel to the boat. We look forward to seeing more as this boat gets closer to the water. Graeme is moving along pretty quickly, so we hope to see more pretty soon. We've decided to let Mr. Morton describe his project, as he's a lot more familiar with it than we are! Read on... Here's a few pics, ( some now outdated ), of the Nova Scotia WEEKENDER, Snupi !
Specs .......... L.O.D 18' 8" ~ Waterline length 188" ~ L..O.A. 22' 4" ~ Beam 6' 8" ~ Hull sides 22" average ~ Transom 4' 6" ~ Cabin floor length 7' , height 44" and 37" at f-ward bulkhead. /  Cockpit seat length 5' 5"

The design is pretty much straight forward Weekender, given the mods I've made to accomodate my 6' 3" ~ 220 lb carcass , slide out cooler and storage, slide-out stove & sink , ( Under seats from cabin side). Twin insulated under seat coolers at transom end. Propane stove & sink will mount on the outside/top of the rail.

I've added a 2nd level to the forward hold, ( allowed due to the lengthened cabin line
( ------ think Tanzer 22 ! ) ........ jib, battery & such in the upper compartment......& tracked roll-out porti - potti, fibreglass water tank & 12 volt demand pump in the lower level cabin extension. The mast will be truss stepped at the 2nd floor level of the forward hatch against the doubled up bulkhead and reinforced via the 7/8" x 1 1/8" .oak stringers.

The removable sprit will be sandwiched in the stem recess and anchored by a single 3/8" ss bolt.

The sides each have two "Joiners", one is attached & hidden forward of the front bulkhead and the other attaching to and hidden on the seat side of the companionway bulkhead. All "stringers are oak. A 1/2" x 2" oak mid-stringer will run from stem to stern to stiffen the sides. Other hull changes are scribbled on the pics.

The bottom was scarfed and glassed ( 6 oz. ) top & bottom. The entire exterior will be cacooned with epoxy /glass and epoxied completely inside.

The 80% length 13 1/2" deep keel with an oak "Nova Scotia Rock - runner) is built such that a "jack-knife" centerboard can easily be retro-fitted , lead ballast inserted or, if required, the keel cut down if "Too much".

A 100 sq. ft. Dynawing airfoil marconi shape mainsail is in the works, however, by design the hollow mast setup, with the sheets etc. inside. , can be switched to standard sails or back at any time. The std. jib is a 34 sq ft. with a 52 ' "Play jib" in the forward hold ! The mast is 17' 6" from cabin top to peak. Boom is 12' 4" .

Other "Goodies" on the garage shelf and awaiting installation are : Uniden "Solara" 1 to 25 watt. 100 channel VHF / AM/FM/ CD radio / Hummingbird 400 TX  / Magellan 315 GPS /  CTC 15 watt solar charger. / Porta Potti / 2 burner propand range / 12 volt demand water pump
