Weekender Builder Photos

Weekender, Jim Rogalski, Saratoga Springs, NY

Mr. Rogalski has sent us these pictures of his Weekender. This is a fine looking Weekender; the toe-rail and the planked decks look great! Jim's Weekender has also appeared in his newspaper! If you'd like to see the web-version of the article, Click Here. Thanks Jim!

Weekender, Michael Wilkinson, Durango, CO

Mr. Wilkinson's Weekender "Look Far" looks great! A nice color scheme, and those look like a set of our sails...Mr. Wilkinson is also the Builder Contact for Colorado, so those of you in the Centennial State have someone to call on for advice!

Weekender, Bob Jones, Lantana, FL

Mr. Jones has sent us this picture of his very elegant looking Weekender. Finished in shades of blue, with extra brightwork, it's a strikingly pretty boat. Since these shots were taken, Mr. Jones has switched to a tiller and is experimenting with a little lead ballast for added stability. As many of you probably know, we're strongly anti-ballast personally, but equally pro-experimentation when it comes to projects, so we look forward to hearing how this works out. Bob has also made mast hoops from pine, and a nice three-position boom crutch, both of which are visible above. Nice work, and thanks to Bob!

Weekender,Leo Angevine, Rixford, PA

Mr. Angevine sent us this great picture of his Weekender "Freedom". He recently bought this boat used, and it turns out it's one of the infamous kit-Weekenders which were built by a company in Canada. The Canadian company started building those kits without telling us, then went on to try to sell the U.S. rights to the Weekender to some guy. He got in touch with us, figuring we wouldn't mind helping him...Needless to say, we weren't too happy about either of the groups, and were glad to hear that the company in Canada shut down. We have always maintained that the Weekender shall be a boat of, by, and for builder/skippers. We do not want the Weekender becoming another product people can buy their way into.

That said, we would like to welcome Mr. Angevine and Freedom to the site. We're glad to see another Weekender on the page, and he's done a beautiful job fixing his up!

Weekender (under construction),Jim Bullard,

Mr. Bullard is in the process of building his Weekender, "Means Of Grace", and sent along a few shots of the current status. We've posted them on a separate page, so Click Here to take a look. We're glad to see another Weekender on its way! Many thanks to Jim for letting us in on his fun.

More pics added 8/25/99.

Weekender,Vince Thorburn, Quebec, Canada

Mr. Thorburn has been very busy, and extremely generous with his time! He's been helping people build Weekenders and a Skipjack, and been still had time to go sailing! And at 70, Vince also happens to be our "Oldest Member"! He sent us a bunch of great shots, so we put them on their own page. Click Here to see Vince's pictures.

Weekender,Ray Brown, Jr., Lincoln, NE

Mr. Brown has finished his slightly modified Weekender, and it looks great. We've posted more pictures on a separate page: Click Here.

Weekender, Charles Levad, Mason City, IA

Mr. Levad has finished his Weekender and has posted a web page about building it. (Click Here to got to his page) We think Charlie holds the record for taking the longest to build his Weekender (17 years) but we're glad he finally made it!

Mr. R. Butler (mona@netbistro.com) has done a great job on both of his Weekenders. He sent us a bunch of pictures, so we put them on a separate page to load faster.

Weekender, Todd Schmitt, San Diego, CA
You may send e-mail to Todd at gminor@hotmail.com Todd's Weekender (The Drakken) was the second boat made in our Weekender Video. You see a fair amount of it sailing around in the video as well.

We posted some new pics of "Drakken" on a separate page: Click Here

Weekender, R. Long, LA
Mr. Long's Weekender looks like it has Dacron sails and an electric outboard. It looks like this Weekender was uilt to the earlier plans; note the oval portholes and lighter rig.

Weekender, Paul Layton, AZ.
Mr. Layton has posted a very nice web site with information about his Weekender "Spare Change", as well as other builder's sites and e-mail addresses. It's a great place to find other Weekender builders to chat with: Click Here To Go To His Site.

Weekender, Scott Webb

Mr. Webb sent us these pictures of a Weekender he bought used. He's now in the process of fixing it back up; from the look of these pictures, it's going to be nice! This Weekender was built from the original plans: it has the deadeyes in the rigging, and you can just see the jacknife centerboard in the keel. It also has the one-piece mast. Thanks to Mr. Webb for sending in these shots of a first-version Weekender.

Weekender, John Weigandt

Mini-Cup, John Weigandt
Mr. Weigandt has a web site with more pictures.

Weekender, Cliff Branham
Cliff raised the cabin a few inches, uses an aluminum mast, and switched to tiller steering. A nice, trim looking Weekender.

Weekender, Mr. Chang?
This collection of shots hints at a very nice Weekender. We wish the resolution was a little higher so we could see details, but it's still very nice. We're afraid we lost the e-mail which went with this shot, and the only clue we have is the name on the jpeg: ChangWkndr.jpeg. If the builder sees this, perhaps they could e-mail us again? We would love to give proper credit for a nice looking boat!

Weekender, Don Kuehlhorn

E-mail Mr. Kuehlhorn at: dkuehlho@mail.co.grand-traverse.mi.us

Weekender, Albert J. Snow,Stratford, CT

Mr. Snow enjoyed building "Annie", and may start on another Weekender for his grandkids!

"Enclosed please find a picture of the Weekender that I completed in July. The keel was laid on March 21 and the sloop was launched on July 22. I have lived on the Ocean and bay all my life and had been sailing only once years ago. On the maiden voyage my sailing instructor, who was in complete awe of the boat, with 25 years of sailing experience, could not believe how easy she handled and how well she sailed. I have had many hours of enjoyment and many many compliments. Thank you for your service and your fine plans.

We have finished building the Weekender and are pleased with it. Its unusual design attracts a lot of attention and favorable comments at the marina on the lake.
C.M.F. Lake Mary, Florida
I received your plans in early March and launched the (Weekender) on June 23. Had a very enjoyable summer sailing. We just love the boat and congratulate you on a very fine job."
E.P.W., Halifax, Nova Scotia
I want to congratulate you on the beautiful design for your Weekender Sloop. I have been looking for a traditional boat (few and far between) and one I could build since I get almost as much enjoyment in building boats as I do sailing them. Your's fits the bill to a tee.
