Penny Morton has sent us these photos of her gorgeous Weekender Selkie. Penny and her late-husband Chris started this project a few years ago, but time has a way of getting in the way of plans, and very sadly, Chris passed away before the launching of Selkie. Penny and a friend of theirs, Audun, continued on with the project and they launched in late 2022. As Penny noted, at 85, she was proud to have the Selkie displayed as part of the 2023 Australian Wooden Boat Festival — I think ANYONE would be proud to have built such a wonderful Weekender! We are honored to have been a small part of Penny and Chris' boatbuilding project, and very happy to share these photos and their story!

The Austrailian Wooden Boat Festival looks like a really fun event, and filled with things to see and do! I would love to visit, one day...Take a look at their site and all of the great activities and boats displayed. We had the happy fortune to have TWO boats in this year's gathering: Penny's Selkie and Mr. O'Leary's Vacationer Okahu! Penny also mentioned that there was a Skipjack in a previous year, too — Yay, Tasmania!

Penny has been writing articles for Water Craft magazine for many years, and they have been running a series of articles about the building of the Selkie. We love Water Craft and think you should subscribe! They're one of the best small boat magazines we've seen.
